Ghana Cocoa prices Season 2015-2016 : The Producer Price Review Committee (PPRC) on Cocoa has reviewed upwards the price of cocoa from GH¢5,520.00 per tonne to GH¢6,720.00 per tonne for the 2015/2016 cocoa season, which began last Friday, October 2, 2015.
The new producer price represents an increase in price of GH¢1,200.00 per tonne of 21.74 per cent and translates into GH¢420.00 per bag of 64 kilogrammes gross weight which, in turn, represents about 73 per cent of the net (FOB).
In addition to increase in the producer price, the Ghana COCOBOD and Government have also approved the payment of an additional amount of GH¢5.00 on each bag as bonus to farmers at the time of sale of their produce, bringing the price and bonus per tonne of cocoa to GH¢6, 800.00 which is equivalent to about 74 per cent of the net FOB.
Increases in other fees and rates such as the Buyers' margin, Haulers' rate, warehousing and internal marketing costs as well as fees for disinfection, grading and sealing have also been approved to ensure that other key stakeholders operate at profitable levels to sustain the cocoa industry.
